Cord Blood Stem Cell Banking

The Cord Blood is once in a lifetime collection, which has to be done only at the time of the birth of the child since these cells do not remain alive unless they are Cryo preserved. The need to “ Bank” these Stem cells collected from the cord blood is necessary for any future application. Since finding a Stem cell sample from a donor (allogenic ) involves HLA typing and matching which is very difficult, (the probability of finding a match is 1 in 25000) it is better to cryopreserve your child’s Umbilical Cord Stem Cells which are very good sources of Stem cells and does not need HLA matching as it is “ Autologous” source.
